How To Restart A Service In Cmd With Task Scheduler In Windows Server 2012 R2

" It'due south not suggested to disable Task Scheduler in Vista or Windows 7. Vista and Windows 7 actually uses Task Scheduler to perform system tasks.

If you lot really demand to disable it, attempt the steps beneath:
1. Open up up your regedit
2. Navigate to this location
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Schedule
3. Find the DWORD called start, modify its value from two to 4."

I don't remember you are going to exist able to do that.

What is making y'all think you accept to restart the whole service and non only end / offset tasks manually?

Here'south another link to support what Kelly posted:

I'chiliad non trying to disable the service just have the ability to restart it.  It's already set to automatic get-go.

For troubleshooting purposes I want the ability to restart the service.  At this signal the server has to exist rebooted to get this achieved (Mode to go Microsoft!).  There's a way to change this by "assigning special permissions to the ambassador token".  I just cannot find anything on how to assign the permissions.

Have a look at Local Security Settings and this link:

What is happening that is requiring y'all to restart job scheduler as part of your troubleshooting?

Kelly's idea might require a restart anyhow...

Y'all might be able to pull this off if y'all run as areal ambassador. Not just "Run equally Administrator" elevated privileges, but enabling the actual local administrator account:

Text

            net user ambassador /active:yep

Log off and back on as that account and try it again...and don't forget to disable the account over again as soon as possible!

Well, that's assuming it's not a server that is blocked from having local accounts at all, like a RODC.

After reading the comments in the link (http://www.installsetupconfig.com/win32programming/accesscontrollistacl6.html) I downloaded SysInternals from Technet and ran the following command:

psexec -i -due south -h %systemroot%\system32\cmd.exe

After the control window opened I ran services.msc and was able to use the restart role on the chore scheduler.

Thanks for all your help everyone!

Restarting chore scheduler is not where you should start. You lot should start with the service that keeps failing. Do you have other scheduled tasks that also are stopping at the same time? If not, Job scheduler is non the trouble.

I agree but I have had another task that also intermittently fails.  Restarting a service is a valid troubleshooting tool and sometimes can solve issues involving the given service.  Obviously you should not haphazardly restart a service for no reason merely an ambassador should accept the option if needed.  Microsoft removed the option for some services in Vista, WIN7, SVR2008 and in a higher place.

@Bill Kindle: because the task scheduler service nether win2012 runs all tasks twice after a change of DST...

I had the problem that the scheduler did no longer execute whatsoever chore, it only updated the "next execution fourth dimension".

With the psexec-Super-Beat out it was possible to execute:
sc stop schedule
sc start schedule

and it worked again.

Give thanks you, Dominic
